i miss my girls! :(mentoring these secondary two girls have been a good experience for me.
for one, i used to think that i could click with the "younger generation" pretty well- until i took up mentoring. it's sad to say that i can no longer remember what it was like to be their age anymore. but thankfully, i could identify with their happy-go-lucky attitude. more often than not, i felt like i was "too old" for their conversations and it really amazed me to see them chattering away non-stop, full of energy. it made me wonder if i was like this once. i'm pretty sure the answer's affirmative, but i just don't know where and when all that energy left me. :/
digressing a little, i think i will make a terrible teacher/mother in the future. when dealing with my girls, i think i have been lenient (more often than not). even when they don't deliver, or when they fail to give me their full attention, i refrained from scolding. deep down, i told myself i ought to be strict lest they climb all over my head. but i was softhearted and when it came to the crunch, it was tough to step in and exert my authority. if it was hard being a good person, i think it's even harder being the bad guy. but i did so anyway. or there wouldn't be results.
with all that said, i must emphasize that i'm really proud of TEENS. :) you girls did well, in my honest opinion. and i hope that next year, should there be such a competition again, your group will be one of the finalists. :D oh yes, and i'm ever grateful to the teachers from wss, for their help and guidance- not only have they inspired and taught the kids well, they gave me a valuable lesson to take away too. :)
