another one of the firsts.

You said move on
Where do I go
I guess second best
Is all I will know

had my first lesson with this p1 boy, and it was kinda nervousing initially because he comes from a chinese-speaking family, which means i gotta interact with his parents and him in mandarin. this is o-kay, but i'm not very confident of myself whenever i speak in mandarin because i think i sound really weird. :/ but anyways, i was supposed to tutor the lil boy english and math. ahahahhaha. luckily, the syllabus hasn't changed much! i was secretly afraid that they'd be learning cos / sin / velocity that sorta stuff at pri one. LOL. that's how little confidence i have in my math, thanks to amath. hahaha.

honestly speaking, i had fun being a tutor! :p it's amazing how kids are so easily influenced at their age. i love how they'll be able to surprise with their quirky ways of thinking, and this little boy has managed to throw me off my feet with his quirky and funny "comebacks" whenever i ask him questions.

for example, there's a question that goes:

suzy has 10 sweets. mary has zero sweets. how many sweets can mary have, if suzy and mary cannot have the same number of sweets? (can give more than one answer, quite obviously)

so i asked him, "how many sweets can mary have?"

and he said, "ZERO. mary cannot have any sweets! she don't like eat sweets."

okay, he said something along those lines, but seriously. i was damn amused!

then he told me that he has 100 over computer games (btw, he has the same computer as me. lol!) and he asked if i have any. i said i have less than 10, because i gave most of mine away. hearing that, he seemed genuinely sad for me and he went, "why!" :( i shrugged, and he whispered.. "i can lend you my games next lesson, but you cannot give your friends." HAHAHAH ROFL. i said, "ehhhh, okay thanks."

to sum it up, i feel that it has been a good experience for me. although i'm supposed to be the one doing the teaching, this little guy has taught me quite alot just in 1.5hrs. for that few hours, i saw the world through a child's eyes, and it was honestly refreshing for a change. innocent and easy to please, he sure is capable of making me smile :)

okay, i'm staying up for manu's big match tonight! :D my whole family's gonna wake up to lend support. hahahaha. please do me proud, manu! it's gonna be tough, but i will cross my eyes in the hopes that you'll score against inter.

  4. heng: i'm more into manu than soccer per se. let's just say i grew into a manu fan over the years of brainwashing from my family, and also partly cus there're a few handsome guys on the team *drools* but that's beside the point. teehee.
